A Book of the Year

While I was in catch-up-after-a-migraine mode, I realized there was a piece of good news I couldโ€™ve sworn Iโ€™d shared last month but didnโ€™t. (Knowing me, itโ€™s probably saved in drafts somewhere.)

Anyway, Iโ€™m happy to share that Goddess of the Sea was voted a Book of the YEAR in the Fantasy category on I Heart SapphFic. ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you so much to everyone who voted for it! This is the book I was most terrified to releaseโ€”because I was scared people wouldnโ€™t understand the mental illness focus or wouldnโ€™t appreciate the mental illness focus, because I was scared of being this vulnerable, of having so much of my own trauma out there. I was justโ€ฆscared. So, for people to actually like this book, it justโ€”it makes me cry. Iโ€™m so happy. ๐Ÿฅน

Thank you. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™

Audiobook Release

For my audio readers: the audiobook for Goddess of the Sea (Lesbians, Pirates, & Dragons: Book 2) is officially out! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ’™

Actually, it came out two days ago, but I was nearing the end of a pretty aggressive migraine (and the start of the depression spiral that likes to tag along with it) and couldnโ€™t think clearly enough to put the post together. ๐Ÿ˜…

Iโ€™m so excited to listen to Lindsey Dorcusโ€™s incredibly talented narration along with you. (I just downloaded mine! ๐Ÿ˜)

And I really hope you enjoy it! ๐Ÿ’™

Snippet – Sword

The way to a womanโ€™s heart is, of course, a sword. (Literally and figuratively.)

A snippet from Book 1 this time! ๐Ÿ–ค

Excerpt on candlelit background:

โ€œHow are you liking the sword?โ€

The truth was that Emilia loved it, but sheโ€™d never admit as much.

โ€œI'll need to stab you with it before I can say for sure.โ€

Maria chuckled at that. โ€œYou'll have your chance.โ€

โ€œIs that a promise, Captain?โ€

I shared this one from Pirates of Aletharia (Lesbians, Pirates, & Dragons: Book 1) for the #lesficfri theme, โ€œpromise.โ€

Iโ€™ll probably share another snippet within the next day or so (because Iโ€™m like two weeks behind on them here ๐Ÿ˜…), but until then, I hope you have the best day possible! ๐Ÿ–ค๏ฟผ๏ฟผ

Snippet – Stare

In Emโ€™s defense, Mariaโ€™s thinking-about-killing-you stare and thinking-about-kissing-you stare look awfully similar. ๐Ÿ˜…

Snippet on blue background with two swords crossed and a dragon separating the text:

โ€œWait. The captain stares at me?โ€

Judith arched her eyebrows, as if Emilia had just proven her point. โ€œConstantly. It's amazing you don't notice.โ€

Iโ€™ve been a little absent from social media lately because with Motherโ€™s Day so close (here in the U.S., at least), Iโ€™ve been in a bit of a spiral. The good news isโ€ฆthis has happened every year since her death, so I know to expect it now.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and Iโ€™m sending extra, extra love this week to anyone who has lost a parent. I know the reminders are everywhere right now, but I hope you still have some happy moments. ๐Ÿ’™

Lesbian Visibility Day

Happy Lesbian Visibility Day! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿค๐Ÿฉท

I probably say this a lot, but visibility is so important to meโ€”as someone who grew up, unable to make sense of what I felt or who I was, and feeling utterly broken because of it, as someone whose only understanding of her own identity came through the lens of hatred and bigotry.

Because of that, lesbian visibility has become one of my biggest passions in writing (right up there with mental health). Itโ€™s why I write lesbian pirates. Itโ€™s why I wrote Kara, Roseโ€™s out and proud lesbian, Viking girlfriend from my vampire series. Itโ€™s why I shove more and more lesbians into everything I write. ๐Ÿ˜…

Lesbian is not an obscene word. Itโ€™s an identity, and when you treat an identity as if itโ€™s obscene, you treat people as if theyโ€™re obscene.

I accepted that once. I let people convince me that I didnโ€™t deserve to exist in broad daylightโ€”that I belonged in the closet.

I donโ€™t intend to sit by while others are made to feel that way. LGBTQ+ people are people, and people deserve to exist and feel safe to exist. Itโ€™s that simple. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿค๐Ÿฉท

Snippet – Pretty

Judith is useless around any pretty girl. Plus Helen.

If youโ€™ve read Book 2, youโ€™ll get that. (I think.) ๐Ÿ˜…

Excerpt on pirate ship background:

โ€œYou mean the part where she swooped in on dragon-back to save the day?โ€

Emilia pushed her way through the small circle of sailorsโ€”who all fell silent at the sight of her. "Right," she said, spreading out her blood-soaked hands. โ€œSorry to interrupt what I assume was a conversation about me, considering all the dragon talk, but umm...โ€

Judith lifted her eyebrows curiously, when Emilia turned toward her.

โ€œYou walked off with someone's spleen,โ€ Emilia pointed out.

Judith frownedโ€”and looked down at her hand. โ€œUgh!โ€ she said, tossing the organ into Emilia's waiting hand. โ€œWhy would you hand that to me?โ€

โ€œYou said you wanted to help,โ€ Emilia muttered.

Iโ€™m finally coming out of a migraine (I feel like Iโ€™m always coming out of a migraine these days), which means Iโ€™ve stacked up a few things that Iโ€™ll be sharing with you over the weekend. ๐Ÿ’™

I know the news has been dark lately, but I hope youโ€™re holding up okay. ๐Ÿ’™
