"The first law is simple."

"You're mine until death," Maria interjected.

Emilia glanced at the pirate captain, her eyes wide.

"That's not exactly—" Zain shook his head, clearly not amused by Maria's humor. "Unfortunately, Em, it seems our good captain is not taking this seriously."

Was it a joke, though?

Because those dark eyes of Maria's looked capable of stealing a lot more than gold.

I’m currently entering that post-migraine depression where my mind punishes me for being a human with chronic illness. This is good news, though, because it means I’m nearing the end! 😅 (It also usually means my blood count’s returning to normal!)

Anyway, if you go through this a lot, too, consider this your periodic reminder that you’re not alone. 💙

Snippet – Shadow

I didn’t think I was going to share a snippet this week because I’ve been a bit depressed. But it usually lifts my mood a little, so… 🖤

The first naval sailor to notice the shadow moving above the trees screamed out, "Dragon!"

The other shipmen screamed and ran for cover, but the stride of a human simply couldn't compete with the flap of a dragon's wings.

"We had vastly different childhoods."

Maria raised both eyebrows. "It was my sex life that told you that?" she said. "Not the dragons?"

Em turned to frown at her. "No, no, no. You have it all wrong." She held up her hand. "The dragons were the most normal part of my childhood!"

Maria couldn't help but laugh. "You're only proving my point, love."

"Well... no," Emilia said. "Dragon sorcerers can't breathe fire. Some of them can wield fire, but we can't breathe it." She waved her hands. "Our bodies are too soft and fleshy."
