A Maria Teaser

Sorry for the lack of updates. I genuinely thought I’d be on here more, and time just keeps running away from me.

Do you know those weeks where by the end, you’re begging for just one thing to go right, just to break the spell? Last week was one of those for me.

This week—well, there’s been several setbacks already, but it’s still early! Things could smooth out. 💙

I hope last week was a little better for you than for me, but if it wasn’t, I’m hoping this one’s better for you! 💙

The new link isn’t up yet, and I don’t have an exact date or time. It could be one more week. It could be more. (I hope not, but it could.)

When it’s time, I’ll share two updates: one when it’s “in review,” and the next when the link goes live. 💙

In the meantime, I have our weekly teaser, if you enjoy those. 💙

Lesbian Visibility Week (and Update Part 2)

Happy Lesbian Visibility Week! 🧡🤍🩷

I hope you’ve had an awesome week!

Mine’s been…stressful.

I’m trying to look on the bright side, I promise. I just haven’t found it yet. 😅 I suppose y’all are my bright side. 💙

Regarding the preorders, I honestly don’t even know what happened. I think the best summary is that technology hates me.

I did talk to customer service (if you knew how bad I am at talking to people, you’d know that was a big deal 😅), and they said it was fixed. (Hence the earlier update.) But maybe technology hates them, too?

So, if the preorders and old link are indeed gone (and it looks like they might be), I’ll have to input all of the stuff on my side again, and when I submit the final file, it’ll be ready-to-release, instead of a preorder. The book will have a new link and new ASIN, but it’ll be ready to buy once the link is live.

This way is less predictable than preorders because it leaves us at the mercy of whenever they decide to put it through, but it’s how I released every book before this one. So, at least I’m familiar with the process. 💙

Whenever the link goes live on my end, I’ll share it across social media and on the website, and you’ll be able to purchase it. I’ll also try to share plenty of updates in the meantime. 💙

I know checking back for a new link is less convenient than preordering, and I’m really sorry about that. I promise I did everything I could.

I hope you know how much I appreciate the support, even if it didn’t work out. 💙💙💙💙

And if you did preorder, don’t worry. They never charge you until it’s delivered, anyway.

Quick Update

If you receive an email within the next day or so saying the Goddess of the Sea release date changed again, please, don’t panic (I say this, as I panic). It’s a temporary change to prevent the preorders from being canceled. I’ll let you know as soon as I’m sure if there will be a real delay. 💙

Update

Okay, it looks like we’re facing one last delay with this release.

I’ll be done with the final edits soon, and then, there’s formatting and proofreading. So, we’re almost there, but not there yet.

I’m sorry this last stage has taken so long. 💙

I know I’m an anxious mess right now, but I promise I’m doing my best.

I’ll try to share plenty of snippets this month to tide you over. 💙

I appreciate your excitement and patience so much. 💙 I really hope this book will be worthy of it. 💙

Snippet and an Update

Today, I have a snippet for you from Goddess of the Sea and an update on its release. 💙

I already had the snippet ready to share, so we’ll start with it. 💙

"Did you just compliment me, Captain?" "No." Maria tried to wipe the blood from Em's eye with her thumb, but the steady flow made it impossible. "I was complimenting myself, actually—for my brilliant instincts in hiring you.” Maria ripped part of her sleeve and tried to use the fabric to slow the blood flow, but it soaked through before she even found the source. It was in Em's hair, on her neck... Maria jerked her hands back. "Em, you're bleeding!" "Mm." Em closed her eyes and swayed. "It's just a head wound." "Just?" Maria caught her by the arms. You might’ve seen that the date on Book 2 has been pushed back a month. I know people are disappointed. I’ve seen some of the messages.

And please, don’t misunderstand. I’m so grateful that people are excited enough to be disappointed.

I just wish people understood that authors often have more going on in our lives than we’re even able to explain. We’re people, too.

I just want to release a book that’s as good as possible, and I’m doing my best. I’m sorry, and I appreciate you all more than you’ll ever know. 💙

The book will be out in March, hopefully, and since this is the first official delay, there’s no change to the preorder link or anything. It’s all still active.

Thank you all for your excitement. It means the world to me. 💙

A Helen Snippet

Being ship surgeon of the Wicked Fate means dealing with Helen. A lot. 😅

Excerpt on background of bottles and tinctures: When Emilia returned, she found a large, muscular woman sprawled across her surgery table. Helen covered her eyes with two unwashed hands. "I'm ready," she said with a dramatic sigh. "Cut me open." Emilia had no idea why Helen was covering her eyes, but she'd stopped asking questions at this point. "I don't cut people open for stomach cramps, Helen." Helen dropped her hands and sat up. Her long, red braid swung for a moment. "So, there's no cure?" I enjoy sharing snippets—if for no other reason than that it gets me out of my head for a moment and makes me stop listening to that endless loop of: “I’m terrible. Everything I do is terrible. Why am I even trying? Etc., etc.”

The only problem is when I need to choose a snippet, my anxiety kicks in with: “Don’t choose the wrong one! Oh, no, I’m going to choose the wrong one!”

My brain’s fun, don’t you think? 😅

But that’s one of the things I like about hashtag games. A few years ago, the writing community on Twitter had tons of them. There aren’t as many anymore, but one of my favorites is still going. 💙

Searching for a specific word in the document means it’s less of a choice, and my anxiety cooperates better with that arrangement. 😅

It does result in some pretty random snippets—but snippets, nonetheless!

The word for this week was “woman,” and when I searched and this scene popped up, I thought, “Well, maybe my Helen fans will enjoy this one.” 😂

It’s hard being quartermaster to Captain Maria Welles. 😅
